Neveplast goes underground with Tubby

This time, with Tubby, we’ve really gone deep.

Neveplast has built a brand-new tubing track inside Honister Slate Mine, in the stunning setting of the Lake District, Cumbria (UK). It is the very first time a Neveplast Tubby installation has been developed inside an active slate mine, now transformed into a unique adventure and leisure destination.

This project brings together the revitalisation of a historic industrial site, experiential tourism and a new way of enjoying outdoor play all year round, even underground. A perfect example of how innovative attractions can enhance visitor experiences in unconventional environments.

Honister Slate Mine: from mine to adventure park

Honister Slate Mine is the last working slate mine in England, overlooking the iconic Honister Pass in the heart of the Lake District.

Over the years, it has evolved into a major tourism and adventure destination, attracting families, outdoor enthusiasts and thrill seekers from all over the world.

The integration of new attractions has allowed the site to extend visitor stay, diversify experiences and strengthen its position as a reference point for experiential and adventure tourism in the UK.

A unique tubing experience inside the rock

The new Neveplast Tubby tubing installation has been carefully designed to integrate seamlessly with the underground spaces of the mine, offering:

• An intuitive and accessible attraction, suitable for all ages

• A fun, safe and engaging activity independent of weather conditions, ideal for the Lake District climate

• A highly Instagrammable experience, where sliding through a historic mining environment creates strong emotional and visual impact

For Honister Slate Mine, this means expanding its range of experiences, increasing dwell time and adding an attraction that is easy to manage, highly repeatable and operational 12 months a year.

Neveplast Tubby tubing now complements ghost tours and family-focused activities, helping to transform the former mine into a true vertical adventure park, where experience is at the centre of the visitor journey.

Reuse, regenerate, have fun

This project perfectly reflects the Neveplast philosophy:

• Giving new life to existing places by enhancing their history and identity

• Creating innovative tourism and leisure functions in unconventional spaces

• Developing all-season attractions that operate year-round, without the need for snow or specific weather conditions

Honister Slate Mine is a strong example of how a historic industrial site can evolve into a regenerative tourism hub, where adventure, heritage and innovation coexist. And where, from today, visitors can also enjoy the thrill of sliding on a Neveplast Tubby tubing track underground.
