Neveplast and SkiStar: an even more eco-friendly Neveplast track in Stockholm

SkiStar and Neveplast have joined forces to bring skiing to the heart of Stockholm with an even more eco-friendly Neveplast track. Together with SkiStar, a Scandinavian giant in winter tourism, sports, and entertainment, Neveplast has completed an ambitious project in central Stockholm with a 500-meter track built on Hammarbybacken Hill using the innovative NP30 FREESKI SUSTAINABLE material.

“Stockholm Hammarbybacken becomes our sixth destination, which means we can make the city a bit more active and fun with exciting and stimulating attractions for anyone seeking the joy of movement and memorable experiences in the city center. With this investment and thanks to our collaboration with Neveplast, we hope to help more people stay active while enjoying the best views of Stockholm,” says Stefan Sjöstrand, CEO and Group Manager of SkiStar.

Features of the Neveplast Track

Served by a ski lift, the track boasts a skiable area of 9,000 m² with varying slopes, making it suitable for both novice skiers and athletes for training. At the top of the track, there is also a "SkiStar Snow Park" area of about 1,500 m² with at least 10 features including rails, jumps, and boxes. The freestyle area is endorsed by Swedish champion Jesper Tjader, one of the world's top freeskiers.

SkiStar SummerSki

This visionary project, named SkiStar SummerSki, brings "snow" to the heart of Stockholm, giving Swedes and tourists the dream of skiing year-round, even in the height of summer, on a synthetic Neveplast track approximately 500 meters long made from sustainable and recycled materials. The project is signed by SkiStar, a Swedish giant specializing in ski resort management, tourism, and entertainment, and the owner of some of the most renowned ski resorts in Sweden and Norway: Are, Salen, Trysil, Hemsedal, and Vemdalen.

The investment in the Swedish capital aims to double the number of skiing days per year in Sweden, thanks to summer skiing, contributing to SkiStar's sustainability goal of seven million days of skiing and sports activities by 2030.

The SkiStar Summer Ski Track is Made with NP30 FREESKI SUSTAINABLE

Neveplast was contacted by SkiStar in the fall of 2021. The final contract was signed a few months later, in the spring of 2022, after the Swedish clients tested the latest generation Neveplast NP30 FREESKI product both on the famous track on the Copenhill waste-to-energy plant and the track in Selvino, Bergamo.

A versatile product was needed to satisfy both beginner and advanced skiers: a material as close as possible to natural snow, with high standards of aesthetics and safety.

Beyond these characteristics, there was one that was particularly important to SkiStar: the product had to be sustainable and meet high standards of environmentally applied technology. In response to the Swedish clients' request, the Bergamo-based company, always attentive to environmental issues, created a bespoke product for the Stockholm project called NP30 FREESKI SUSTAINABLE, raising the bar even further in terms of sustainability.

In April 2022, the NP30 FREESKI SUSTAINABLE product obtained the important ISCC PLUS certification (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification). This achievement marked another step for Neveplast towards respecting the environment and community.

SkiStar Sports & Adventures at the New SkiStar Stockholm Hammarbybacken Activity Center

On June 24, 2022, Hammarbybacken Sport & Adventures was inaugurated: a sports and entertainment park aimed at stimulating social interaction through physical activity and fun, with all the associated benefits of exercise impacting psychological health.

The highlight of the entertainment layout is the Neveplast tubing center, “SkiStar Mountain Tube,” consisting of two straight tracks, each 50 meters long, and one track with a parabolic curve. One of the straight tracks is also equipped with a custom SkiStar tunnel, making the tubing descent even more exciting and inclusive. The ascent is facilitated by a conveyor belt provided by Sunkid, a long-time partner of Neveplast, which played a crucial role in finalizing the agreement between Neveplast and SkiStar.

Among other park attractions, the 800-meter-long Mountain Coaster, with a drop of about 100 meters, also by Sunkid, is highly popular.
