A hotel with a Neveplast ski slope on the roof: introducing the new Falkensteiner

A hotel with a Neveplast ski slope on the roof. A hotel with a Neveplast ski slope, skating rink, and an interactive rooftop soccer field: this is the visionary project of the brand-new Falkensteiner Family Resort Lido in South Tyrol, which reopened in November 2021 after a futuristic makeover that makes it unique in the world.

What’s better than a rooftop pool? A year-round ski slope on a hotel roof.

The Neveplast ski slope on the interactive rooftop “Rooftop Sky Adventure Park” is the crown jewel of the new Falkensteiner Family Resort Lido, a 4-star Superior hotel in Casteldarne, 25 km from the Kronplatz ski area.

The hotel reopened after a complete renovation, featuring breathtaking architecture and a new dimension of hospitality. In the “Rooftop Sky Adventure Park,” besides the Neveplast ski slope, there’s a Valo Jump area, a Bobby car track, and other sports activities, including a playground and jogging path.

For guests at the Falkensteiner Lido, the experience of sports entertainment is guaranteed. The family hotel has set new benchmarks for experiential and sports offerings in the hospitality industry.

The Neveplast ski slope winds from the roof of the new Falkensteiner down to the base of the structure, with a length of about 150 meters and a total skiable area of about 1400 m².

Two conveyor belts along the slope and an elevator ensure skiers can quickly return to the top after their descent.

The fascinating layout of the slope, following the hotel's sinuous roof architecture, features a flat section and three large whoops, simulating the gentle changes in slope found on traditional mountain ski runs.

Slope Difficulty

The varied configuration of the slope makes it suitable for all skill levels: from beginners who have never worn skis or snowboards to experienced tourists who can ski even in summer without leaving the hotel. In winter, they can warm up on the Neveplast slope before heading to nearby ski resorts.

Ski Equipment Rental

Guests who prefer to leave their ski equipment at home can rent skis and boots directly at the hotel, thanks to the new Marker/Dalbello/Volkl ski rental shop, operating year-round. The ski school within the hotel offers all the essential services for a perfect winter or summer vacation on the snow—or rather, on Neveplast!

For the Casteldarne project, similar to Copenhill, Neveplast developed a custom product with various shades of green. The goal of the Falkensteiner property, for which sustainability is a core element of their organizational model, was to set up a hotel slope resembling a natural lawn as closely as possible. Neveplast, always attentive to environmental issues, enthusiastically accepted this challenge.

Neveplast's Commitment to Sustainability

Protecting nature and fighting pollution, promoting more sustainable development, are principles that Neveplast is inspired by now more than ever. All Neveplast products are made from special, eco-friendly, completely regenerable plastics that have received positive environmental impact certification and do not contain harmful substances. Additionally, they do not require electricity for their use.

Georg Weitlaner, Director of Falkensteiner Family Resort Lido, said:

“Our guests are very satisfied with the ski slope on the roof of the hotel. Many have told us that the sensation is like skiing on a regular groomed slope. Families love that the layout of the slope allows their children to learn to ski easily and safely.”

Niccolò Bertocchi, CEO of Neveplast, said:

“We at Neveplast are very happy that the rooftop ski slope project at the new Falkensteiner in Val Pusteria was successful. Being chosen by such a prestigious and visionary client like the Falkensteiner group fills us with pride. It's not the first time we've been commissioned to build a ski slope on the roof of a visionary and iconic structure—Copenhill comes to mind—but we had not yet done it on the roof of a mountain hotel," smiles Niccolò. "Our company was founded to bring skiing out of the city, making it accessible to everyone and in all seasons. We have never been and will never be competitors of winter ski resorts; our mission is to spread the culture of sports, becoming a valuable tool for expanding the target audience of mountain tourists. In this sense, having our ski slope inside a hotel in Casteldarne a few kilometers from Kronplatz does not mean that hotel guests will only ski within the structure and forgo the wonderful nearby ski areas.

On behalf of myself and Neveplast, I wish the entire Falkensteiner group the great success that such a futuristic and courageous operation deserves. I believe that spending a few days at this hotel would be a dream vacation.”
